Sedbergh has a good range of shops for everyday needs including Steadmans who have just been voted North-West Butcher of the year and there are plans to hold a Farmers Market once a month in Main Street. The main attraction of Sedbergh is its designation as 'Book Town of England' where shops have a diverse interest in books and memorabilia, so whatever your interest you should find something to suit your taste. |

To the northern side of the town, in a very tranquil environment and more akin to the Lake District, are the Howgill Fells, that offer 40 square miles of varied walking for the beginner or the experienced walker alike. Whilst not as well known as the Lake District there are several summits of over 2000ft with beautiful views into the Lakes and Dales. On the doorstep to the East and South are the Yorkshire Dales, the nearest being Garsdale, Dentdale and Wensleydale and to the West is the Lake District - the Eastern Fells can be reached within a 30 minute drive. |
If your not a fell walker then there are beautiful walks along the picturesque local rivers of the Rawthey, Clough, Dee and the Lune and if fishing is your interest, day and weekly tickets are available. In the cottage there is a range of books, maps and general information and just a short walk away at the Lakes & Dales Tourist Information Centre in Main Street there is a huge array of visitor attractions and days out not only for the immediate area, but for the whole of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales making Ruby's Cottage an ideal base from which to explore. |
